Be Baby-Friendly!

Because I just became an aunt
(I still can't believe it!!)
I thought I would do a baby friendly post!
Playing with little kids is kind of
awesome, but it does require
certain type of clothes.
(i.e. no dangly jewelry, easy clothes that are machine
washable, and flats!)
But that doesn't mean you can't look cute!

first off, congratulations to Kate and Sean on the fabulous Oliver and Miles :)
if i could instantly send a little gift basket all the way to California, this is definitely what would be in it. (the piggy bank might be a little much, i know...)

Tiny Tots

I became an aunt today!
My sister gave birth to two beautiful
baby boys this morning and named them
Miles John
and
Oliver Driggs
This is my first time being an aunt
and I couldn't be more excited!
Congratulations to
my sister and her husband!
I can't wait to see the
tiny tots!

Coffee Filter Pom-Poms

So this weekend I spent
six hours dyeing coffee filters.
Yes. You heard me correctly.
Six hours.
Dying coffee filters.
For my on campus job, I help out with a lot of events
and I absolutely love it.
Sometimes, this requires me to dye coffee filters.
For six hours.
Thankfully, this includes hanging out with some of my
best friends for six hours, so it's not really so bad.
All in all, we dyed 4,000 coffee filters
a plethora of bright colors.
In the end they are going to make these
delightful pompoms for an event.
I hope to show you all our
finished product as soon as we
string and hang these beauties!

You can find the directions for these here,
but between you and me,
I have some revisions to this process that will
make things easier!
I'll be sure to give you these tips
when I post the finish products!

Caroline

i is for indian corn

i is for indian corn
alright dudes, here's another stretch on the food-alphabet theme, but i think it ended up surprisingly well. I love the juxtaposition of the fall hues in summer pieces and I especially love the sparkly gold eyeshadow (shout out to my shimmery Amber for her lovely use of gold and/or glitter almost every day of the week) and the tiger-eye jewelry making kit (hello, craft time - shout out to my lovely fellow craft-addict Rachel).

hope this brightens up your monday!

Spring > Snow

So, even though it snowed yesterday,
I'm still in spring mode.
So, here are five springy things that I'm craving
right now!
Source
I have been obsessed with this skirt
on ModCloth for a week or
two now! It reminds me of a skirt
my dear friend Amber bought while
we were vintage shopping a few weeks ago!
It just makes me want to go have a picnic!

Source
I love the idea of hats.
I think they look absolutely adorable on some people,
but I've never really been one to
sport them myself.
Something like this, however, may turn me around!
It seems like the ideal way to keep
that springy-sunshine out of your eyes!

Source
I will always love a nice clean button-up,
and this shirt is no different.
It's a perfect basic for a spring/summer wardrobe.
Source

Though I am very much a night owl and
NOT a morning person (just ask Katy),
this adorable Good Morning pillow
from etsy might make my mornings a bit
more enjoyable...
especially if I wasn't waking up to snow in
late March!
Source
Another etsy find,
this canvas and leather clutch
seems to me like the perfect way to round out
a preppy spring ensemble!

Here's hoping that I can use some of these springy pieces
before summer gets here!

Love,
Caroline

alright guys, so this weekend has been an absolute blast (just thought you'd like an update since i've been hit-and-run blogging). i'd sincerely hoped that there would not be snow  when i got to this post because it's so springy, but alas, missouri just won't take a hint.

hope you have a smashing sunday!

f is for fig

f is for fig
okay everyone, this is getting more and more random, i realize, but i sincerely loved this post. this is such a great color and i can't think of one person who couldn't completely rock it. the universally flattering rich brick tones are best suited for early autumn days, but i personally indulge in this hot hue the entire year.

have a fabulous friday!

Walking on Sunshine!

Every three months, like clockwork,
I break my sunglasses.
I step on them.
The lenses pop out.
Someone sits on my purse when they're in it.
Whatever.
I know it's my fault, I'm careless with my sunglasses,
but because I'm so careless, I've never bought a
pair of sunglasses that cost more than $20.
That doesn't mean I don't lust after them!

Anyone else unlucky with sunglasses?
Have you had luck with reforming?

happy birthday, Laura!

happy birthday laura
well, it's taken all day, but i'm finally wishing my lovely sorority sister and favorite random-chat-initiator Laura :)
I hope you've had a fabulous birthday!

pretty and polished post

this post is for my lovely role model and sorority sister Kathryn per her request for a few suggestions for the fashionable college grad :)

navy
the first outfit i put together uses one of my favorite tricks: a dress and cardigan (or blazer) combo. it's so much more comfortable but gives the same synchronized effect as a suit. i went with simple jewels, a prim and proper watch, and a roomy bag to top off this look. (i chose this color combination because i wanted to show off Kathryn's gorgeous red hair and peachy complexion.)

magenta
the next look is a little more daring, but equally as pretty. i focused on little feminine details with a big punch of color to keep the outfit youthful.

Untitled
my third choice focuses on clean lines and unique pieces that dazzle separately and together. i love the powerful red and neutral navy combo for a bolder look.

lilly - kathryn
and finally, just because i couldn't resist, i put together a lilly pulitzer ensemble for a casual, pretty look. (i haven't gotten a chance to try the perfumes, but they sound divine, so i had to include them as well.)

stay tuned for another personalized post later today!

(hope this helped you out, Kathryn!)

have a wonderful wednesday!

d is for dragonfruit

d is for dragonfruit
alright so obviously i had to stretch a little with this one, but who knew dragonfruit had such an amazing color?! anyway... i couldn't resist throwing in the obnoxious blush and pink jumpsuit for kicks...I promise tomorrow's post is less wild :)

i'm honestly curious: has anyone ever seen that blush on a real live person?

happy tuesday!

c is for cantaloupe

c is for canteloupe
alright dudes, i finally have a second to profess my love for this color (and fruit, but that's beside the point). these creamy colors work wonders for any complexion and feel particularly nice when paired with other similar colors (mint and baby blue are some of my faves) or with contrasting colors (i love it with black, chocolate, or navy). plus it's a completely perfect hue to wear year-round, so stock up on this delectable color!

as always, happy monday!

Skirting Love

I have a new obsession
and it is this skirt.
It's in my new favorite color, cognac.
It's in the always-flattering pencil skirt shape.
It's leather, so it's kind of edgy...
but it's the warmest, most buttery brown leather ever
so it's soft and girly.
It's also supremely versatile.
In my eyes, it's perfect.

The Perfect Match

Goodbye Vogue.
And Cosmo and Glamour too.
Might as well get rid of Lucky as well.
Why?
Because I have a new favorite magazine and it is 100% online.
That means it's free and it has a tumblr.
What more could a girl want?
It's called Matchbook and it is, in it's own words,
"a field guide to a charmed life."
Matchbook is a whole two issues old but I already have some
favorite articles!
It's list of 50 Classics for Your Closet is genius...
Issue One

A gadget guide from a GM Creative Director that includes a beautiful
nespresso machine that my older sister might have and I
might be extremely jealous of...

Issue Two

an article on some divine spring makeup...

Issue Two
and an editorial I am totally in love with called An American in Paris!
Issue One

Okay, so maybe I'm not going to say goodbye to the other magazines,
but they do have some new competition!

Caroline

a is for apple

A is for Apple
so i'm sure no one needs an alphabet lesson, but i had a little time on my hands over spring break and made a series of _ is for ___ posts (partially because i was lacking in the creativity department and partially because i just liked the idea). anyway, all the posts are loaded with delicious savings (all under $50) and hopefully more fun than your kindergarten alphabet lesson.

in regards to the first post of the series, i thought this group had a springy kick and i really liked the varying shades and colors to work in any wardrobe!

have a request for a future post? let me know below!

happy friday!

Do It Yourself!

I love the idea of DIY accessories!
I think they are a great way to save some money,
release some creativity,
and give some originality to your wardrobe.
But, sometimes the outcomes look very DIY.
via Regretsy
Yeah, no.
This is not what I'm looking for.

Thankfully, there are some other, better, tutorials out there.
I've recently found a lot of great tutorials on HonestlyWTF!
This flower headband is adorable!

A bracelet like this doesn't look DIY at all!

For those of us who can't knit *cough*me*cough* a scarf like
this is the perfect DIY alternative!

Caroline

rainbow brights

colorblocking + tarina tarantino
so spring break has yielded many great splurges and steals on shoes, jewels, tops..pretty much everything (including makeup from my favorite place on earth, sephora). i have been hungry for the tarina tarantino themed lip gloss and eye shadow collections since they came to sephora (especially the bronzy orange and the muted gold), but i couldn't justify paying $36 a pop for such a frivolous find- that is, until sephora knocked down the price to $10 apiece! I stocked up on the electric butterfly eyeshadow and lipgloss (orange) and the bibarucci eyeshadow and lipgloss (yellow) two days ago and i'm thoroughly addicted to the incredible creaminess and long-wearing capabilities of the eyeshadow and the fruity fizz of the lipgloss.

do you have a favorite collection or product? let me know!

happy wednesday!

katy

Borrowing from Bones: Angela Montenegro

It's Day 3!
Our third and final day of exploring the styles
of the women of the television show Bones!
Angela is the creative one of the bunch.
An artist by trade, her job at the Jeffersonian includes
giving faces to the victims though her artistic talents
and help from her high-tech computers.
Angela loves to express her artistic side at work.
In addition to decorating her blue lab coat,
she wears fun and professional outfits like
this watercolor inspired top!

Untitled
I am in love with Angela's dress she is wearing
in this promotional photo!
It's neutral toned, but with a bit of an edge.
It let's Angela's quirkiness shine through!
Untitled
Angela rocks some pretty awesome
out-of-office outfits as well!
I love the chic motor-chick vibe
of this look.
