An Ode to Anne

I'm going to say it right now:
I'm really depressed The Social Network did not win the Best Picture Oscar.
I may write a rant about it later,
we'll see.
But now I'm going to do an ode to Anne.
I know I said I was maybe going to do a worst dressed today,
but Anne Hathaway's many lovely dresses last night are just begging to be oded to.
So I blogged about her red carpet red dress last night, but her many wardrobe changes as a host were fantastic as well!
Though this was a pretty dress, it just looked a little high school prom for me. This was my least favorite of the night for Anne.
Great dress, but what I loved more than anything was Anne's reaction to the fringe. This is totally what anyone wearing this dress wants to do. She just did it on stage in front of a billion people.
Love, love, loved this dress! So romantic and just so darn pretty! I'm always a fan of the neutrals and she wore this one so well!
I'll be honest: I do not remember this dress. Internet consensus is she didn't wear this long, so I don't know if I just wasn't paying attention or if this was during my long-distance family's video chat Oscar party technical difficulties or what. But anyway, pretty color, but what are the tufts of fabric coming out of the dress? Strange.
Someone I follow on twitter, Bre or @brebishop,has the best quote about this dress,
"IT BELONGS IN SPACE."
This dress belongs in space. And I love it for that. It's awesome. Don't hate.
Another pretty dress, but at this point in the evening I was just so depressed that
The Social Network didn't win Best Picture that I just didn't care.

I would also like to take this opportunity to applaud Anne's hair and makeup team.
Wow.
Do you see all of the changes between outfits?
My goodness.

Anywho, this might just end up being Oscar week for Caroline here on the blog.
Please stick with me. It won't last forever, I promise.

Love,
Caroline

alright folks, as promised, here's the second round of fun and funky clothing for the hardworking college student. today's is a little more simple and a little bit easier to pull off every day than the completely pink and purple ensemble...plus, who doesn't love that zesty yellow cardigan? i love the simplicity and functionality of this look and i can't wait to show you tomorrow's post! it's one of my favorites. :)

happy monday!

Red on the Red Carpet

So we're in the middle of the Oscars
and while some people who I would have liked to have won haven't
a lot of people who deserved to win have.
ALSO
The fashion is fierce!
And there are a LOT of red dresses.
Here are some of my favorites from the night:
One of the lovely ladies in red, Anne's Valentino dress was just so glamorous. She really looks like a movie star.

Is Hailee not the cutest thing you've ever seen? Not only is the dress perfect for her (LOVE the length! and the shoes!) it's super age and event appropriate.

So I'll be honest. I don't really know much about Jennifer Lawrence. But she is such a showstopper in this Calvin Kline dress! Simple, sleek, and she looks HOT!

I'm not super super in love with this dress as a whole, but I think the neckline and color are perfect for Mila.

Again with the color, Natalie looks stunning in this deep purple gown. I always think it's interesting to see what the prego ladies wear and she dressed with such gorgeous grace.

Okay, Reese Witherspoon looks so retro cool here. She looks like she could be walking the red carpet with Audrey Hepburn! Love the hair, love the makeup, love the dress.

See you tomorrow with my least favorites perhaps?

Love,
Caroline

pretty in pink (and purple)

pretty in pink (and purple)
well, sorry for another incredibly simple post, but i really liked these items for the hardworking college student. comfy clothing, a great watch, and tons of useful accessories (whoever has a student id needs a juicy couture id-holder) - all in pink and purple- make this group fun and functional.
if the pretty-in-pink thing isn't what you're going for, good news: i'm going to be posting a series of essentials for college ladies that feature numerous different styles so stay tuned!

happy sunday!

Kodak Theater Moments

As I'm sure you all know, the Oscars are tomorrow night.
(Okay, maybe you don't know, but it's one of my favorite nights of the year! You should know!)
As a movie fanatic I am of course excited to see who wins what,
but I'm also excited to see all the pretty dresses!
I'll be sure to tell you my favorites after tomorrow night,
*cough*when The Social Network wins best picture*cough*
but tonight I'd like to share with you some of my favorite dresses from the past few years!

I had a hard time choosing between Amy Adams' dress in 2008 (this one by Proenza Schouler) and 2009, where she wore the red dress with a b.a. necklace. I ended up picking this one because I just love love love this color green with her complexion!

At first I didn't really like this Calvin Klein dress Emily Blunt wore to the 2007 Oscars. But it's really grown on my over the past few years. I love how simple and sleek it is, but is Oscarified (yeah, I just made up a word, what of it?) by it's glittery sheen. I'm also kind of obsessed with this color of blue, it was my Senior prom dress color!

I am absolutely in love with the bodice of this Armani Prive dress Anne Hathaway wore in 2009. I of course love the entire dress, but something about the lining on the top, where the waist falls, and the angle of the beading makes this dress divine in my book!

I don't know if anyone else could pull off the color of this Vera Wang dress besides Michelle Willams. She wore this dress allll the way back in 2006 and it still sticks out in my mind. I love her accompanying red lip and romantic updo.
I've saved my favorite for last! This is probably one of my favorite Oscar dresses of all time. Penelope Cruz always looks fabulous at the Oscars (and everywhere else for that matter), but I adore this Versace dress she wore in 2007 above them all. The pinky-nude color, the bandage bodice, and the feathery, soft skirt all make me melt! While I know all of my other dresses were anti-volume for the most part, when I think of an Oscar dress, I automatically go to something like this. For me, this is the epitome of what and Oscar dress should be.

Go big or go home.

I can't wait to see what fabulous fashions tomorrow night brings!

Love,
Caroline

Stylish Soda

I'm really addicted to diet soda.
or pop
or soda pop.
However you say it, diet soda is to me as many people daily coffees are to them.
And, because I live on a Coke campus, I've kind of been a Diet Coke sort of person recently.
However, Diet Pepsi released their new 12 oz can this week at Fashion Week (hahaha)
and I think it's really cute (kind of European?)!
Cute enough to make me change my ways?
We'll see.

What do you think?

Love,
Caroline

southwest dressing

Southwestern Flare

alright guys, here's a fun fact about me: i'm native american. yep. my indian name, so given by my kind roommate and wonderful grandparents is katy princess-white-cloud-red-feather eden. it means stylish and amiable one.
okay, not really, but it sounded good. anyway... all this rainy weather has made me really hungry for some heat- namely, new mexican heat. i got to go to new mexico last summer for a pre-med conference and i completely fell in love with this lovely little place called santa ana just outside of albuquerque.
(check out the hotel in your spare time - it's so beautiful!!!)

all of that is to say that i want to be in new mexico. right now. buying turquoise and silver by the bushel and eating indian fry bread. so, naturally, i made up a couple of outfits that encompass that new mexican vibe just for the heck of it.
my favorite piece in the whole collection is the fringed minnetonka boot- minnetonka's known for comfort and i feel like these are a staple (they also have an ankle boot and moccasin style available in a variety of colors).
giddy up and gitcha some of these pieces loaded with that southwestern style- or better yet, make a reservation for the santa ana hyatt! i'll see you there!

chi pisa lachike (see you soon in choctaw) and have a terrific thursday!

Slush, Slush, Go Away

Slush.
That is all the weather has brought to town today.
Cold, wet slush.
I realize we talk about weather an awful lot on this blog,
but weather has such a HUGE effect on my mood.
I don't realize it until it's 75 degrees outside after a month straight of below freezing temps.
Then I say to myself, "Ohhh... I forgot I could actually get EXCITED about my walk to class
instead of dreading the trek though the cold and the sleet and the snow.
When, however, days like today come along, one of the only things that picks me up is a
fabulous umbrella.
Now, I'll be honest. My current umbrella is black. BUT that's only because I have a bright red trench
and black, healed, bowed rainboots.
I feel so classy in my red coat, black boots, black umbrella!
On any other occation, however, i would want to be sporting one of these beauties!

Umbrellas!

I do have to say, however, the Kate Spade and hearted ModCloth umbrellas
would fit quite well into my color pallet!
Hmmmm....
;)

Afternoon Delight

Afternoon Delight
guys, i have an obsession: mint. the color, the flavor, whatever. i love it. this cool hue usually pops up for spring as an accent color or, worse, a background color, and it frustrates me. why can't it be the primary focus of an outfit?
well, friends, it can be. and its creamy color makes it all-seasons-friendly and very versatile (especially the cupcake/mint chocolate chip ice cream).
there's a certain ethereal quality about this subdued hue that makes it appropriate for everyone, plus the color is used to detract redness from the skin (ever see those wacky green concealers and powders? well...) and literally cool you off - great for the first sunburn of spring, maybe?
as usual, i love the blazer - a little cropped and a little sassy, in a sweet, elegant mint that's perfect with cream, pink, blue, black, brown... the list goes on. it's a fabulous neutral, in short. also among my faves are the bag (i believe i've featured it in every color now), the ladylike watch, the cheeky mint nail polish, and, of course, the dior eyeshadow palette (try it for a new spin on the old smoky eye - especially when your allergies kick up or your all-nighter is beginning to show to cool you down!).

enjoy this dreamy confection of a collection and happy thursday!

Airport Attire

So, personally, I think it's a little creeptastic to take pictures of celebrities at airports.
I mean, you already have the TSA all up in your business
and you're trying to make sure you don't look like a threat to the safety of the airplane.
The last thing I would want is some paparazzi
taking pictures of me in what I probably threw on in two minutes
trying not to be late to my boarding gate,
and then plastering them all over the Internet and on magazines.

This does not mean, however, that I don't love to look at pictures of celebrities at airports.
I mean, for the most part, I'm not going to wear what the stars wear to the
Oscars, Emmys, or Golden Globes.
Their airport attire, however, is perfect for brainstorming
cute clothes for class!

polished polka dots

polka princess
so i've decided to be totally random with my posts all week. get excited.
i'm hungry for something perfectly polka dotted and what better than this lovely polka dot shirt and neon watermelon skirt? everything about this outfit screams feminine and put-together (check out the coordinating lipgloss-and-skirt-combo)  (you love it, i know...) with the recurring ladylike bows, carefully placed pearls, and logo-bearing-bangles, there's not an inch of this outfit that's not ready for work or play!

enjoy and happy wednesday!

blue hawaii

blue hawaii
i know, it's a little funky to post about rain clothing one day and bikinis the next, but i'm willing the weather to be conducive to this awesome ensemble every way I can.
while pondering my spring break plans and reliving my cruise to jamaica (as i do on a daily basis), i stumbled upon this awesome bikini and things just went from there. i'm sure i'm not the only one who loves to accessorize her bathing suit. (okay, the emilio pucci towel might have been a little much, but if the gold gladiators and blue hawaii fit...)
take a gander at these little lovelies and add them to your spring break checklist!

have a terrific tuesday!

Cute and Comfy

I've been feeling under the weather today,
so obviously I've had comfy clothing on my mind as of late.
So today I'm not going to show you bright springy styles
or my favorite cute and easy class look.
Today my friends,
I am highlighting PJs.
PJ2
I am clearly a sucker for anything Harry Potter related,
this shirt references my favorite boy wizard and looks super comfy!
PJ1
This one, featuring an OU tee, is especially for dear Katy
who is the best roommate to have,
especially when I'm sick. :)

PJ3

Now, of course, I have to feature a Mizzou tee as well!
I love Victoria's Secret's line of college dormwear!
Also, those cute little slippers make me never want to wear
real shoes again!
(Okay, maybe not, but they're still really cute!)

Alright, back to sleep for me!
Hope this finds you all in better health than I!

Love,
Caroline

rain, rain, go away

rain, rain, go away
go away unless i'm stocked up on frizz-fighters, bright colors, and wellies, that is. allow me to explain this bunch of impermeable goodies:
1. tarina tarantino headband to keep curly, wavy, straight, or just plain wild hair out of your face and prettily tamed.
2. la prarie's silver rain fragrance and body wash - leaves you with a fresh, clean scent and the sculptural bottles make lovely additions to your ever-growing vanity.
3. estee lauder wild violet lipstick: this stuff is insanely creamy, won't budge, and is blue-toned, so it perks up your pearly whites in addition to lavishing your lips.
4. bedhead control freak straightening and frizz fighting serum. an application straight out of the shower plus that lovely headband and your hair isn't going anywhere.
5. pretty periwinkle earrings to pull out the gorgeous periwinkle color in the headband.
6. feminine magenta ring with a delicate gold filigree band - perfect to offset all the rainy hues.
7. stainless teal (haha see what i did there?) watch to keep you pretty and punctual.
8. missoni-inspired umbrella to keep you nice and dry.
9. cross-body/twin-handled tote for the girl on the go; the bright springy color makes it a perfect catch come rain or shine.
10. yves saint laurent magenta wellies. enough said.
11. marc jacobs enamel pendant - come on, who could possibly brighten a dreary day like the cheeky marc jacobs?
12. sleek slate trench (burberry, i just couldn't help myself); i always seem to wear gray on rainy days, so it had better at least be a fashionable classic piece if it's going to be a dull dove-gray instead of hot pink.

and there you have my rainy weather survival kit - the bare essentials to staying pretty even when the weather's icky!

happy monday!

Sandwich Season

Something about Spring and Summer makes me crave sandwiches.
I'm not talking about generic PB&J or something you pick up at your local Subway.
(Don't get me wrong, I couldn't live without a little Subway & PB&J.)
Spring and Summer, however, make me crave super fresh, creative sandwiches!
Now, with Spring quickly (I hope) approaching, I'm starting to crave things like this!
from Cupcakes and Cashmere
My only problem is, while I'm an expert at eating these scrumptious sandwiches
(no really, there should be an Olympic event, I would totally dominate),
I am less competent at making them.
I have figured out that putting avocado on anything makes my taste buds SUPER happy!
I guess only practice will make perfect...
and I am happy to practice making these delightful dishes!
from Kath Eats
from Nadoz Cafe
Mmmmm.... I really just love food.

On that note, I'll see you soon!
Caroline

that 70's show

that 70's show
so i'm not sure if i am listening to too much of steve miller band and led zeppelin, wearing too many high-waisted jeans, or just hungry for summer, but guys, i'm going so 70's. it's getting ridiculous.
so naturally i want to share my ridiculousness with you via an outfit... which i may have to purchase. individually, these pieces are cute, but together, they are so janis joplin, man.
groovy.
the color scheme in this outfit may not be quite authentic 70's, but i'm just going with the flow- the rose and denim seem to work wonders together. some of my faves are the fabulous blue worn-in wedges, the wood ring with a gold-leaf embellishment, and the "peace" necklace (for obvious reasons).
gonna go do some homework and scholastically recover from my frivolous and fabulous weekend... enjoy the 70's revival, man.
(okay, i'm stopping, couldn't resist throwing it one last time)

peace,
katy

gold rush

gold rush
so as everyone probably knows, i love a good statement piece, and what's better than sparkly gold to spice up an outfit? either in small doses or in a full-on gold glaze, everyday or after-five,what's not to love about being a gold member for a day? (or everyday, for that matter...)
Among my faves for this glittery bunch are the asymmetrical sequined dress, chunky gold ring, lightning bolt earrings, and the yves saint laurent letter clutch. got a favorite gold piece? comment and share with me why it's the best!

have a splendid sunday!

Inspiring Inspirations!

Today I want to share with you some of my favorite people to get inspiration from!
Some of them are bloggers, some are celebrities.
All of them have fantastic style!

Sydney is a girl you've seen me reference on here before. I discovered her blog just a couple of months ago, but I've been a religious reader ever since! She's a college senior who can rock a belt like nobody's business. I also love her writing style.. it feels like she's one of your best friends! Love!
I've been following Emma Watson since I first saw her in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when I was 11... and I've loved her ever since. As the poster girl for Burburry, she obviously has great style. But not only that, she's super smart, too! She's currently studying history at Brown (in addition to playing Sam in the new Perks of Being a Wallflower movie.)
She has it all!

Andy is a fabulously fashionable Mexican girl who currently lives in Amsterdam. Her blending of cultures and the mixing of the trendy and classic makes her one of my favorite bloggers to follow! Also i want that coat. And her hair. She has fabulous hair.
Carey Mulligan can do no wrong. Who else can wear cutlery on an Oscar dress and still look chic? (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, look it up. It's worth it.) Since then she's continued continued to rock a classy, indie style. Her pixie haircut also rocks my world!
Emily's blog (Cupcakes and Cashmere, how can you not love it?!) is the that of the quintessential Southern California girl. She makes everything she wears seam easy and mellow. She wore a black leather mini skirt recently that was warm and buttery instead of harsh and lookslikeyoushouldbeinamotercyclebar-ery. She has magical SoCal powers!
Kendi, originator of the 30 for 30 project (in which bloggers only use 30 articles of clothing for 30 days!) is a fantastically creative Texan. See: 30 for 30 project. She is the queen of the remix (using the same articles of clothing and remixing them in ways to make new outfits), which is perfect for poor college students like me!

Caroline

Any Happy Little Thought

I grew up addicted to Disney movies.
I was no doubt influenced by my older sister.
She decided she would have the best chance at being "discovered" if we acted out the entirety of Aladdin in our backyard.
Needless to say, it didn't work.
It did, however, lead me down the path of singing lions, beasts, and Greek heroes
and I never looked back.
I'm still as in love with Disney as I was when I was three.
But now there is a cute, fashionable way to show my Disney pride!
Disney now has a Disney Couture line of jewelry that is
whimsical, magical, and on my wish list!
I love that the line falls right in to any style with ease!
